Winning organic wines from Spain at Biofach 2007

Spanish wines made from grapes from organic agriculture have been awarded five gold medals, one of them of special category and 21 silver medals in the International Wine Fair in the framing of Biofach Organic Production, being held in Nuremberg (Germany), from February 15th to 18th, 2007.

With nearly 300 suppliers of wine, cava and champagne, Biofach is the largest wine exposition made from organically grown grapes in the world. The exhibitors came from the flag from the leading organic winegrowing countries like Spain, Italy and France, as well as Argentina, Chile, Germany, Greece, Austria, Turkey, Hungary, among others.

During the contest, 1129 wines took part, organic grape wines from 294 winemakers from 13 different countries, representing an increase of 45 percent over the previous year.

International jury, which has been composed by a team of 43 tasters among winegrowers, winemakers, sommeliers, wine journalists and experts in trade and food, was very impressed with the quality of wines and awarded 10 distinctions "Higher” gold, 66 gold medal, 151 silver medals and 263 wines won a second prize of recommendation.

These awards highlight the success of Spanish wines, since Spain has won five gold medals, one special category, and 21 silver, plus 31 second prize. The award categories for Spanish wines are red wine, red wine in contact with barrel, rosé, sparkling wine, dessert wine and liqueur wine.

    This article read more like reading a driving manual, with all its lists, but it was a very interesting intro, and seeing as how I’m very interested in trying new, award winning wines, I would like to hunt some of these wines down and try them! This was a few years ago though…
