Foods are the basis of good health, discover here their properties and nutrients, and how we can combine them to maintain a certain level of energy, a healthy weight and at the same time take care of our health. Natural foods are ideal for a balanced and healthy diet.

Food classification

Food can be classified in several ways, and can be of animal or vegetable origin, such as fruits, cereals and vegetables. Water and salt are foods of mineral origin. All of them have the function of providing the necessary nutrients for the organism, and we can also classify them as energetics, builders and regulators.

Energy foods: They are those that provide us with the energy we need to perform our different physical and intellectual activities, these contain carbohydrates.

Food Builders: Are those that feed the skin, muscles and other tissues, and promote healing. These contain proteins.

Regulatory foods: They are those that provide us with the nutrients necessary for the body to function properly. These contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Composition of food

Foods are edible and consist of compounds obtained from plants and animals. Water and salt are inorganic substances also necessary in our diet. Water is also one of the main components of most foods

All foods are composed of: water, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. All foods have a structure, texture, flavor, color and nutritional value. All foods have calories.

Food chain

The food chain begins with the breeding, production or cultivation of the products of the land, livestock and fisheries. Then the food industry processes a food from the raw material that transforms it into canned, frozen, dehydrated, fermented food, etc. The next step is marketing and selling in markets, supermarkets, online stores, etc. and finally these reach the consumers, who look for products with a good quality and price ratio.

Balanced diet

An example of a balanced diet is the Mediterranean diet, based on varied foods, with menus rich in vegetables and fruits, carbohydrates, dairy products, meat, fish, and olive oil. It is important that our food always contains a variety of foods from all groups of the food pyramid, which are seasonal, within your budget and as much as possible fresh and natural.
