Natural Remedies for eliminating wrinkles

Published: 10/24/2014 - Updated: 09/24/2018

Wrinkles; those lines in our faces or skin that spells out our age and that are generally so undesirable.  But wrinkles don’t appear just because of aging.  There are other factors that play a part as well, like, for example, contamination, smoking, certain medications, drastic weight loss, and sun exposure.

It is well-known that healthy lifestyles and a good diet reduce the appearance of wrinkles, as well as certain natural remedies that could reduce, or even eliminate, them.

Dietary changes

If you have recently noticed the appearance of wrinkles and you want to do something about it before they become more pronounced, now is the time.  We recommend that you start by making a few dietary changes.

Drink enough water: this is one of the most common health remedies for skin, and that includes wrinkles as well.  Hydrating creams can help to keep skin soft and tights, but hydration from the inside, which is to say, drinking enough liquids, is absolutely essential.  A lot of times, for different reasons, we don’t drink enough water.  6 to 8 glasses of water are recommended daily, but you could need even more if exercise or do any sort of activity that provokes water loss due to sweating.

Anti-wrinkle foods: Certain foods could be better than others at fighting wrinkles.  Those that contain antioxidants, for example, or fatty acids like omega 3, or selenium, copper and high quality natural proteins.  Vitamins E and C are also very good.  These nutrients are found in fruits and vegetables, dried fruits, eggs, liver, seafood, different types of tea (like green tea), vegetable oils, legumes, ginger, garlic, etc.  We could conclude by saying that a healthy diet without junk food is the best for skin health.

Changes in habits

Diet truly is the basis of young skin, which means that avoiding unhealthy habits and acquiring certain good habits could help keep our skin wrinkle-free.

Sleep well: During rest, spikes in the growth hormone (GH) are detected, which helps renew tissues, including the skin.  On the other hand, if you lack sleep, the stress hormone cortisol usually stops this rejuvenating process, thereby damaging tissues.  That’s why it is recommendable to sleep enough, and in a correct posture (preferably face up) as this is the best position for preventing wrinkles.

Avoid stress: Having a life full of stress could foster wrinkle production by weakening the skin.  Stress can also contract your facial muscles, making a scrunched forehead more pronounced.  Certain activities that could help reduce stress are: reading a book, practicing yoga, painting, or any activity considered to be relaxing.

Avoid smoking: Smokers have been shown to develop wrinkles earlier than most people, which is why it is recommendable to drop this habit.  You should also try to avoid exposing yourself to second hand smoke.

Be careful with the sun: Direct exposure to the sun’s ray could damage skin structure, making it age more quickly.  That’s why it is recommendable to use sunscreen, or to protect yourself from the sun by wearing sunglasses, bandanas, hats, visors, etc.

Use natural and high-quality cosmetics: Women frequently use beauty products that could damage skin, especially products that contain alcohol because these tend to dry the skin out.

Natural remedies against wrinkles

Some ingredients commonly found in kitchens could help to reduce or eliminate subtle wrinkles.

Avocado masks: Avocado is rich in healthy oils for the skin.  It is also a source of vitamin E.  Prepare a mask with the pulp of one half avocado, one tablespoon of honey, and two teaspoons of blended linseed.  Mix well and apply to the face, or the entire area you wish you eliminate wrinkles in.  Let set for 30 minutes to one hour, and wash with warm water.  Use this mask twice a week.

Papaya and banana mask: Papaya helps exfoliate the skin thanks to its high enzyme content, while bananas are rich in nutrients that help the skin stimulate renewal.  This is a mask that helps remove skin flaccidity.  Mix equal parts papaya pulp and banana and apply to the areas you want to treat.  Let set for 20 minutes and wash with warm water.

Egg: A simple anti-wrinkle remedy consists of using egg white to massage the skin you wish to treat.  Let set for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water.  You could also add a teaspoon of honey to the egg white.

Honey: Honey has been used for a long time as a popular remedy for skin health and for reducing wrinkle visibility.  In order to use it, wash your face with warm water, and then apply a bit of honey with a gentle massage, letting it set for 30 minutes.  Then wash with warm water.

Vitamin E: This vitamin is a potent antioxidant, which is why it helps fight the effects of free radicals.  To use it against wrinkles, you could apply the contents of one capsule in two teaspoons of yogurt, and spread over the area you wish to treat.  Let set for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

I JUST bought my first antiwrinkle cream. Yes, it was “natural”, or made with “organic” products, but now that I’ve read this, I’m thinking I won’t buy anything from the store again!! What great suggestions, and I especially loved the cocount oil idea-i love cooking with it too, and it’s supposed to be a fairly good sunscreen as well.
