Did you know that you can prepare your own homemade creams to remove makeup, without resorting to store-bought items and therefore spending more money? The best part is that it is more than likely that you will already have all the ingredients needed in your home, which will make things even easier.
Sleeping with make-up on is never be a healthy choice. Remember that cosmetic products can damage our skin, especially if they contain chemicals, such as lipsticks, eye shadows, mascara and eyeliner, among others.
Also even if you do not wear makeup, sweat and impurities from the environment also can end up speeding-up the appearances of ageing in your face, so it is important to devote time every day to your facial care.
Here you will learn to prepare your own creams, with no preservatives or additives, to make sure you get great effects.
Eyes and face
First, it is important to highlight that there is an area that deserves special and separate care on our face: The eye area. For our skin we can make use of honey, but for the upper and lower lids we must turn to other, more gentle oils.
Removing make-up with honey and baking soda
Procedure
- Dip a small towel in water.
- While wet, pour a little honey on it.
- Sprinkle on a small amount of baking soda, which has powerful exfoliating effects.
- Wet your face with the towel and cover very delicately with the contained mixture.
- Rinse your face once or twice and you are ready to go!
Although you no longer have make-up on and you will feel that your face is clean, the PH of your skin will be slightly unbalanced by the presence of sodium bicarbonate, hence why you must complete the second step: Apply a toning cream.
Apple cider vinegar Toner
In a blog about apple cider vinegar, we commented that this compound arises from the fermentation of the fruit sugars contained in apples and has been used for centuries to nourish the skin.

Preparation
- Take a cotton ball and moisten with water.
- Add two to four drops of apple cider vinegar.
- Clean your face with the cotton, avoiding the eye area.
If you like the results, you can prepare a bottle of toner to store in the fridge, ready for use. You simply mix 60ml of water with three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a bottle with a lid. Add five drops of rosemary essential oil to this mixture to keep it fresh and give a touch of anti-bacterial power.
Remove Eye Make-up
Now you must take off any remaining eye make-up. Take a cotton ball, pour some extra virgin olive, almond or avocado oil on it and begin rubbing your face and especially the area around the eyes. Do this carefully, or you can repeat the procedure if necessary. You will see that the cotton contains traces of make-up and will appear dirty.
When you finish this step, wet your face with warm water and pat dry with a small towel. This step is optional, but it can help cleanse the pores and remove impurities like excess oils. This will make sure that no traces of oil or other dirt are left.

Healthier Skin
This whole process is the most safe and healthy way to take care of our skin as it cleanses, nourishes and fortifies at the same time. Do not think that industrialised creams are the best, as even some which say "does not contain oil" do indeed contain oily products, which, when used on oily skin, can lead to excess sebum and horrible blackheads.
When the skin is stripped of its natural oils, it generally produces more oil to compensate. So, in oily skin that means more black spots and even acne, and for sensitive or dry skin: even more dryness and irritation.
What happens when cleaning your face with natural oil is that the oil from your skin is dissolves without stripping it away completely. Besides, the point of your skin care regime is to be a chemical-free process.
Also remember that you're saving a few coins that is good for everyone, however you can check the beneficial results of this process yourself by trying it out – do not hesitate, do it today!
If you want to stay beautiful, follow these steps to protect your skin, but also make sure to bear your emotional side in mind, because stress can have a negative effect on your skin as well.
When we get stressed, anxiety increases the hormone cortisol and this causes inflammation that can break down the collagen fibers as a result. In prone people, this can immediately manifest as redness or even the appearance of acne.
In other more serious cases, stress can also cause the famous seborrheic dermatitis, characterised by the presence of pink or red flaky patches on the sides of the nose, eyebrows and in more severe cases, on the cheeks and the scalp too.

Good advises! Indeed they are very useful to stay in very good shape, and of course the most important is to at least take off the makeup at night before going to sleep because it really can cause damage to your skin and then you will notice wrinkles and that stuff.

Most people forget to use sunscreen too and that can really harm the skin even though you do not see anything now, in some years you can really be hating it that you never took care of the skin when you played outside so this should be taught to our children too!

Honey is a very good ingredient when thinking about the health of our face and the skin in general, well, you can combine it with oats, or even yogurt and create different masks that can help when dealing with that, like wrinkles caused by the use of excessive makeup

It would be nice to be able to use all the ingredients required, the problem is that in my country some of these, as Olive oil, is expensive, we mostly use it to prepare healthy food when a person has some kind of illness you know, my question is…would it be possible to use avocado mushed instead?

Great article, great information!! I’ve been using a commercial cream for the past few years, and as I get older, I’m becoming a little bit more aware of ingredients and chemicals. I’ve been looking for ways to remove make-up naturally, so I’m super glad I found this artcile. All very natural and soothing ingredients!

These are some fantastic tips! It is not only very rewarding to make your own facial creams and other cosmetics from natural products, but you will see a noticeable difference in the condition of your skin in a very short period of time. Another thing which I think is important too: Try to use locally avilable products where you can, for example: instead of avocado or olive oil which is only available in warmer climates, try rapeseed oil as a good alternative.
