A beard is a patch of constantly growing facial hair in the chin area, which spans the neck and even cheekbones and under the lip. Some men grow their beards as a symbol of masculinity, to change their look or simply for personal taste: There are many different reasons.

Unfortunately, growing a beard is not always easy and depends on the genetics of each individual. This means that for some, it can be a frustrating process as they are not able to obtain the desired growth as they want it.

Take care of your skin

Having healthy skin which is free of impurities can promote the growth of the beard and therefore a daily cleansing routine is advised.

Try to exfoliate your face once a week: Choose a suitable exfoliating product for your skin, remembering that facial skin is delicate so it is recommended to avoid aggressive or overly-abrasive products.

It is important to wash your face daily: It is advisable to do so in the morning and evening and in this way you will keep it clean and free of impurities.

After washing your face, apply a cream or product to moisturise your skin to keep it healthy.

General recommendations

While cleaning can be essential to achieve a full beard, it is important to consider the following aspects:

Avoid shaving daily: Although often said that shaving can accelerate the growth of facial hair, this fact is not proven and may even prove to do the opposite. Usually it is advisable to postpone shaving for a month to allow the growth of your beard and try to avoid cutting it so you know which areas need more attention.

Once you have seen the length of your beard after leaving it to grow for a month, you can shape it, cut the necessary areas to even it up, or pay attention to the areas where it is lacking in length. It is difficult to find out the true state of a beard if it is not left to grow for at least 4 weeks.

Another tip is to take care with your diet: Vitamin B7 or Biotin can help the growth of facial hair internally.

Brewer's yeast is a supplement that can be used to supplement our diet and thus promote the growth of beard too.

Natural Remedies to grow the beard

If you are not happy with the length of your beard or how it grows, you can stimulate growth with some natural remedies.

Eucalyptus oil: This oil is extracted from eucalyptus and is traditionally used to promote hair growth or facial hair.

It is recommended to avoid using eucalyptus oil directly on the skin, as it can be irritating to the skin. Instead you can dilute a few drops of eucalyptus oil in olive oil and apply on the beard area where you want to stimulate growth. Do this at night before going to bed and again in the morning: Leave on for about 20 minutes and rinse with a little warm water.

Massage: Massages serve to activate circulation, improving tissue oxygenation. Massaging the beard area daily with your fingertips can be a good idea to stimulate the growth of facial hair. Try not to apply too much force with your fingers. Instead, massage gently and in circular motions for about 10 to 15 minutes a day.

Tomato mask: Tomato helps keep the skin clean, free of impurities and well hydrated. It may be useful to promote the growth of your beard.

To prepare the mask, mix a liquidised tomato with a little water and tomato paste and apply to the beard area. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and remove with warm water. Repeat this treatment every two days.

Rosemary essential oil: Rosemary helps boost the growth of facial hair. Carry out a facial massage with a few drops of rosemary essential oil in a teaspoon of olive oil and leave on the beard area for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Repeat daily to reap the benefits of this natural remedy.

Cinnamon: If your beard is growing but not quite enough, it may be a good idea to apply cinnamon to the beard area, which can also stimulate growth. Mix a tablespoon of cinnamon with fresh lemon juice into a paste, then apply cinnamon onto the beard area and leave it on for 15 minutes. Later, rinse off with warm water. Repeat the process daily before you go to bed.

These natural remedies can improve the appearance of your beard, however, remember that it requires perseverance and possibly a lot of patience to see results, as the growth of facial hair takes time.

Likewise, results will be variable and will also depend on each individual person's genetics.
