If you are used to washing your hair daily and often expose it to heat from the hair dryer as well as the use of straightening irons, tongs and other tools that use heat, you should know that your hair could be extremely damaged. However, you can implement the following tips to your beauty routine to take care of your hair and prevent further damage:

How often do you wash your hair?

People who have short hair or who do daily exercise, as well as those who have an oily scalp, usually wash their hair daily, however washing our hair is also subject to our own personal habits and customs. The recommendation is to wash your hair 3 to 4 times a week, experts say, because in this way the hair does not lose as much of its natural oil.

There are shampoos that are formulated for frequent hair washing, limiting the effects of continued washing of the scalp and hair fibre, but on the other hand washing treated or dyed hair daily makes the colour or treatment fade more quickly.

Wash your hair with warm or lukewarm water.

If the temperature of the water with which you wash your hair is very hot, it affects the brightness and strength of it, so you should avoid very hot water and try to use lukewarm or warm water instead. If you have trouble following this measure, especially in winter, try washing your hair separately.

How to wash your hair

It is advisable to put the shampoo in your hands to make better use of its components. Place it on your head and massage into your scalp. Avoid using your nails, instead using the fingertips to spread the product in gentle strokes and cover your hair.

After shampooing, apply a conditioner from half-way along down to the tips and never on the root as this can grease the scalp area. Be sure to rinse the product thouroughly, unless it is a product that does not require rinse.

Finally, do not apply too much product on your hair as this can cause hair to become greasy or sticky.

Drying your hair

If you usually opt for using a hairdryer, first, use a towel to remove excess water, using an up and down patting or rubbing motion. Try not to squeeze or ruffle your hair too hard as wet or damp hair is more prone to damage. Then, use the hairdryer at a distance of 30 inches and at a low temperature. Do not point directly at each lock of hair.

Split Ends?

Split ends is the bane of long haired people's lives as they give hair a dull, dry and damaged appearance. Fortunately today there are some products that "seal" the ends, however this effect is not permanent and wears off or disappears after a few hours or the next wash, so you have to reapply the product as many times as necessary to maintain the ends.

Hairstyles that cause hair to fall out

Some hairstyles like tight ponytails, buns and plaits among others can promote hair loss. However, do not worry! It is not a permanent problem and hair definitely grows back.

Finally, it should be mentioned that straightening irons and tongs which are widely used for the purpose of straightening and styling the hair are a source of heat that can damage the hair. However, if you use them, try to use "hair serum" or Argan oil to protect the fibres of your hair. Using straightening iron gives hair shine and sparkle as the fibre is straight and smooth, reflecting light directly on the surface and giving it a shiny appearance.

    Thanks for all the tips to the hair, it is always nice to have some tips on the pocket when needed, because the hair may lose its strength anytime and then you need something quick to stop having the problem, that is when you need them for sure!

    I’ve tried everything to take care of my hair, but nothing has helped. I think it depends on the individual and also the consistency in which we take care of it. unfortunately time for a mother’s shorter!

    REcently I noted that my hair looks dull, and after reading the whole article, I think it is not because it is unhealthy or thing slike that but the way I wash it and the way I put the conditioner cream in it, maybe I am doing it in the wrong way, can you believe that? after all those years I have always been washing it wrongly and too many times in a week

    Well, well, the hair is one of the sensitive parts of the body what suffers first when you are neglecting something especially in diet, just like the skin, both get tired and their constitution is bad when you are not eating well, or taking the proper care of each one of them, so if you want to change the dull hair start by the diet, and apple a day!

    wow. So…most of what they recommend NOT to do, were actually things that I WAS doing. haha. I guess i’ll be making some changes to the way I take care of my hair. I have the problem that, since my hair is so fine, it frequently gets oily towards the front of my face (I wear bangs), and the tips stay dry. I wouldn’t say it’s brittle, but it feels like the top of my head always needs more washing than the tips.

    Nice article! Does anyone have any tips to share on natural remedies for especially oily hair? I have tried everything, but my hair is super oily and if I leave it for more than one day without washing it looks dull and horrible. I have really fine hair, so using conditioner just weighs it down, as well as other serums or oils. I have tried everything but still have not found anything that really works. Any suggestions welcome!
