The consumption of vegetables reaches 80.5 kg per person

The consumption of fresh vegetables in Spanish homes has been more since July 2005 to June 2006 by 4% over the same period 2004-2005, to 80.5 kilos per person per year, according to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Per capita, expenditure per year on these products amounts to 98 euros, a 5.1% increase compared to 12 months before.

Note the growth of onions, peppers and beans (+17.5%). However, potatoes and tomatoes are the most consumed products, with 24 and 13.7 kg per person per year, respectively.

Households bought such products 32% higher average monthly from last year. May show the highest percentage (64.4%) and December is the month with the lowest consumption (3.75 kg per person).

Households consisting of adults living alone are the major consumers of vegetables and fresh vegetables. In particular, 160 kilos per person per year; this doubles annual average consumption (80.5 kilos)per capita.  

Autonomous communities, Catalonia and Aragon have 97.7 and 97.4 kg per person per year, respectively. They are also above average Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria, with consumption exceeding 85 kilos.
