- Plan of Organic production of the Community seeks to promote organic production and improve marketing

The Plan has been carried out various activities in 2006 with a total investment of more than 845,000 euros aimed at producers of such crops, and the food industry, to improve the processing and marketing of such products.
Also, organic products from Madrid had been included in the Plan of Marketing of Food in Madrid, performing various actions to promote awareness of this type of food for consumers.
In this sense, the Community of Madrid has supported the participation of organic products in the region in various national and international fairs, such as Bioculture, Biofach, Lounge & Gourmet Food Market "La Plaza", and the launch of advertising campaigns and providing the possibility to use the trademark "Food from Madrid” to those operators of the Community of Madrid which request it and whose products have been certified by the Organic Agriculture in Madrid.
A booming sector
In the Madrid, area cultivated for such products has increased from 217 hectares in 1996 to almost 5,000 hectares in 2005 and the number of farms has grown from 4 in 1996 to 74 in 2005.
Similarly, the number of operators (producers, processors and importers) in Madrid has risen from 7 in 1996 to 135 in 2006, which have traded 1,058,400 kg in the last year as a certified organic, with a turnover of 2,845,150 euros, an increase of 84% over 1996.

Definitely, I completley agree that more organic agriculture needs to be promoted across the entire world. Farms that are currently using chemicals, pesticides and herbicides, should be prompted to switch to different methods of food preparation, along with new farms starting out organic.
