It comes from the flowers of Crocus sativus. With a tenth of a gram we get flavoring a dish for four people, it's actually cheaper. Its normal use is a condiment, especially for rice, sauces, fish and pasta. It has a lingering aroma and a pungent, bitter flavor. It blooms in the fall and the collection of pink, is extended for a few weeks, as each day brings new flowers, to be picked up before the sun is high, because they are easily damaged by heat. One of the first historical references to the use of saffron comes from ancient Egypt, where it was used by Cleopatra and other pharaohs as aromatic and seductive essence, and to perform ablutions in temples and shrines. Its name comes from the Arabic "asfar" (yellow) and "safra". During the Renaissance, Venice stood out as the most important commercial center of saffron.
