In colloquial language the word "rheumatism" means any pain that occurs in muscles, tendons, bones and joints, which is any illness that occurs in the locomotive system. The ancient Greek physicians believed that rheumatic diseases were due to some humor that flowed from the brain to the joints, hence the word “Rheumatism” comes from Greek origin and means current or flow. Currently seen as rheumatism or rheumatic disease to those of the musculoskeletal disorders that cause pain and difficulty at the time of body movement. Involved in the locomotor system, organs like the heart, bones, joints, muscles, kidneys, skin and lungs. Rheumatism is understood within the more than 200 diseases diagnosis and treatment with a very different one another.

Frequent types of rheumatic diseases

Arthritis and some locomotor defects are the leading cause of pain and disability in the world. Arthritis, for example, is the inflammation of a joint whose symptoms are pain, limitation of movement, and a local heat. On the other hand osteoarthritis, which is sometimes confused with arthritis, is a degenerative disorder of the joint. The non-articular rheumatism, also known as "rheumatism of soft tissues" also causes some discomfort and difficulty in moving. The lumbago and sciatica are caused by various problems of the spine. Osteoarthritis, which is one of the main types of arthritis, occurs as a result of wear of the joints, and it happens mostly to athletes or people who have used over some of their joints. Another type of rheumatism that is caused by an injury or a defect in a protein which is made of cartilage, and which often manifest themselves in old age, while osteoporosis and Fibromyalgia (general muscle pain) are also some rheumatic diseases.

Natural Remedies

Rheumatism caused by the accumulation of uric acid can be alleviated to be easier in warm climates, with frequent exposure to sunlight. This condition is more serious in colder and moist climates. This type of rheumatism can start a healing process if a person begins to take a diet rich in sodium and often consumes a bit of salt water. We recommend eating hot drinks, fresh vegetables, protein, and goat milk.

Massage and hot springs

The local massage and steam baths are also very useful in cases of severe inflammation of the joints or stiff muscles. The hot springs between 36.6 and 60 º C are ideal. To make this steam bath you can use a vaporizer with some essence of lavender or orange (optional) and put it in the room (preferably a small, closed) of the affected person to be covered with blankets. You can also use a more rustic: get some bricks, and after boiling water (if you like to add some orange or lemon leaves), pour water on the bricks that temperature, allowing the steam out and disperse in the room. The steam baths increase body temperature, moisturize the skin and tissues. You may feel at the beginning, the feeling of fatigue and head heavy, but this is normal. If this bath accompanied with a good massage with special oil, enhances its benefits.

The immune system

One of the main causes of arthritis is contradictory to the operation of the immune system, which loses control and begins to identify antibodies in different parts of the body, injuring and destroying, especially the joints. However, arthritis and rheumatism can be treated and alleviated with natural remedies that have no contraindications and we describe them briefly below:

Cat's Claw: Cat's claw is one of the main remedies without side effects that serve to relieve the pain of arthritis. The benefits of this plant are anti-inflammatory effects, so it is recommended in cases of rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis, various, bursitis, rheumatism, lupus and fibromyalgia.

To prepare a tea of this plant, it is enough to boil a tablespoon or 6 grms of Cat's Claw powder in 1 liter of water, and simmer for 10 minutes. Let stand and add a little honey or lemon juice if desired. Take this liter of water during the day. Take this remedy for a year and then rest a month.

Other foods and plants

Another plant that relieves pain is called Chuchuhuasi, which has analgesic properties, relieves pain, relaxes muscles, anti-inflammatory and is ideal for low back pain. Raw potato juice is an excellent remedy for rheumatism. You can extract the juice by means of an extractor and take a teaspoon or two during the day, preferably before meals. This juice helps eliminate the toxic condition of rheumatism. Do not forget the juice leaving the peel of the potato, as it is rich in vital mineral salts, the skin is one of the best medicines for the ailments caused by excess of toxic substance in the system. If you can eat the shell alone (well washed, disinfected and boiled) much better. Bitter gourd, lemon (taken fasting, diluting the juice of two lemons in half glass of warm water), celery, onion, apple, garlic (raw, once daily or in capsules) are foods that should not be omitted from the diet being highly beneficial to help combat the poor condition of the locomotor system.
