Recipes with Wheat Gluten

This vegetable meat, also called seitan, is produced from wheat gluten, is widely used in vegetarian cooking, It contains no saturated fat and cholesterol , therefore, helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and prevent veins and capillaries become clogged with fat. It is rich source of protein, contains significant amounts of iron , vitamin B2 and natural fats .

Seitan with garlic and parsley

Serves : 4 people

Ingredients

  • 400 gr. of Seitan
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • Olive oil cold pressed

Preparation

  1. Cut the seitan into slices and fry in a pan with a little oil.
  2. Sprinkle garlic and parsley. If you want you can add some tamari .
  3. Serve with mashed steamed vegetables.

Seitan in tomato sauce

Ingredients

  • 400 grams of Seitan
  • Three red ripe tomatoes
  • A piece of onion
  • A sprig of parsley
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup of chopped steamed potatoes
  • 2 cups of vegetable broth

Procedure

  1. Cut seitan into slices and fry
  2. In blender, grind the remaining ingredients .
  3. In a saucepan , season the sauce .
  4. Add to the sauce and potatoes to seitan .
  5. Serve hot .

Seitan overflow

Serves : 4 people

Ingredients

  • 400 gr. of seitan
  • 1 egg
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Olive oil 1st cold pressing

Preparation

  1. Cut the seitan into slices and lay it in the beaten egg and then the breadcrumbs.
  2. Fry in very hot oil.
  3. Once browned on both sides, remove from oil and drain over paper towels.
  4.  In the same way you can make booklets with cheese .

Seitan with almonds

Serves : 4 people

Ingredients

  • 450 gr. of Seitan
  • 2 large onions
  • Raw Almond ground
  • 1 tablespoon of Mugi miso
  • Chives or parsley for garnish

Preparation

  1. Cut the onions in half moons, sauté in a deep pan with oil.
  2.  When they are golden , add water, cover and simmer 15 minutes.
  3. When the onion is soft, put raw almonds ( 2 or 3 handfuls ) , miso and sliced Seitan , let cook 10 minutes. Remove and serve .

Penne with Seitan

Yield: 4 People

Ingredients

  • 400 gr of Seitan
  • 300 gr. of whole wheat pasta
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 large ripe tomatoes
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 pinch of oregano

Preparation

  1. Make a sauce with onion , tomato , onion and oregano in the end add grated carrot and Seitan and let fry 10 minutes , stirring all, while boil the macaroni in salted water .
  2. When al dente and drained, mix well with the sauce . Let stand 5 minutes.
  3. If desired, sprinkle cheese and broil.

    Seitan is one of my favorite products, even more than tofu, the taste is pretty nice and you just have to get used to it, it is very versatile too just like normal meat, thanks for sharing those recipes but I really knew then so I hope you post more soon

    I had no idea seitan was made from wheat gluten! I’ve heard a lot about it and I’ve wanted to try it for quite some time, and now I finally have some recipes to try it with! I really like cooking with tofu, and I’ve done so for quite some time, but I’m excited to try new alternatives, so this will be exciting. Thansk so much@!
