Organic Production in Castilla-La Mancha
The agriculture compatible with the environment is gaining ground each year in Castilla-La Mancha. There are currently 64,691 hectares in this region in organic production and a total of 1074 registered producers. The industries that make these products are 76, among the predominantly oriented are wine, oil and cheese.
The area devoted to organic production represents approximately, according to 2005 data, 8% of the national total. For crops, the production of cereals and the like are involved 14,000 hectares, of olive groves around 8622, and vineyards just over 4942 hectares.
As for livestock, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, referring to the year 2005, there were in Castilla-La Mancha, a total of 40 farms, of which 13 were from cattle, 14 sheep and 8 goats.
Also it had at that time a total of 76 food businesses that work with organic production, including the mills and warehouses, but there are dairy companies and others involved in the production of cereal. Currently there are four companies licensed by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha to certify organic food in the Region: Ecoagrocontrol SL, CAAE Association, Certification and Inspection Services (CIS) and Eco Cert SHC.
