Juices to detoxify the body

Published: 09/19/2013 - Updated: 11/19/2016

You can detoxify your body by following a few guidelines in just three days, and thus eliminate many of the harmful substances to which we are often exposed.

The health of our body depends largely on the excretory organs that are responsible for removing toxins that our body does not need. The 5 major organs that perform this function are the skin, liver, kidneys, lungs and intestines.

Up to 80% of diseases have been linked to excessive intake of these toxins that cannot be purged by the excretory organs, and as a result accumulate in the body creating illness. The consumption of tobacco, alcohol, meat, dairy, refined flour and processed products can contribute greatly to this.

However, we can cleanse our body of toxins by consuming sprouts, juices and fresh vegetables.

Detoxing with juices

Plant foods tend to be loaded with vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants that are essential for cleansing the body. Some of the benefits of juice detoxing are as follows:

  • They strengthen the immune system
  • Promote weight loss
  • Improve the appearance of our skin and hair
  • Improve quality of sleep
  • Increase your energy and vitality
  • Provide antioxidants

Natural juices are nutritious beverages which can be prepared with different ingredients, not only fruit but also those whose combination with fruit may result in a detoxifying juice.

Juice Recipes

Green Juice:

In a blender, whisk 1 cup of alfalfa sprouts with a cup of spinach and 3 seeded apples, adding water if necessary. Serve with some fresh lemon juice squeezed and mixed in.

Apple juice and celery:

In a blender, blend two seeded apples, two stalks of celery, the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon and a glass of mineral water. Serve fresh.

Pineapple and flaxseed juice:

Mix two slices of pineapple with two stalks of fennel, fresh lemon juice and two tablespoons of germinated flax seeds.

Mango juice:

Peel a mango and place in a blender. Add the juice of two tangerines and a fresh lemon. Before whisking, add a small slice of ginger and fresh mint leaves.

Recommendations:

Choose organic food: It is recommended that if you wish to go on a cleansing diet, try to choose organic products to avoid the ingestion of agrochemicals.

Do not use industrialised juices as they are a long way away from the detoxifying benefits we seek, as well as lacking in many vital vitamins and minerals, so it is advisable to use only fresh, squeezed juices.

Prepare yourself: Take two days before a liquid diet to detox and eat vegetables and light foods to prepare your body.

Do the diet for three days eating only detoxifying juices and doing as much as necessary to avoid solid foods. We do not recommend straining the juices, as alone they do not contain enough of the necessary fibre for us to feel satisfied. Avoid drinking more than 7 cups of juice to avoid overloading the kidneys.

Finish your diet: Once you have completed the 3 days, you can begin to include solid foods gradually in your diet, starting with light and fresh foods in small quantities.

It is worth mentioning that you can experience symptoms such as dizziness, diarrhea and headaches during the process of this diet, and these symptoms are attributed to the detoxification process. However, it is important that before beginning a detox diet, you make sure that your body is healthy and has no nutritional deficiency, so it is important to consult with your doctor or a professional who can advise you before starting a detoxifying diet.

Finally, try to do a detox diet on your days off work to avoid the stress of your working week. You could, for example, choose to do it during a vacation or a weekend.
