Wrinkles often betray our age and it is true to say that everyone wishes to avoid having them. Hygiene and proper nutrition principles are the foundational assets of youthful skin.

Depending on our age, there are certain products and strategies that are recommended to maintain a youthful appearance.

  • The newest discoveries

From 20 to 30 years

The pillars of skincare at this age are hygiene, hydration and sun protection. It is ideal to start skin care from adolescence, although creams with anti-ageing ingredients are not recommended. It is advisable to keep skin hydrated and well maintained, in order to prevent the future appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Preferrable products are those that contain polymerised DNA, liposomes and sebum regulators in case of oily skintypes.

From age 30, it is recommended to start using anti-ageing products, however you can begin using them a little earlier if you often expose your skin to UV rays. Products and creams containing vitamin C, peptides, coenzyme Q, aquaporins and hyaluronic acid are advisable.

Sun protection is always necessary, as exposure to the sun produces free radicals that lead to "oxidative stress", accelerating the process of ageing. That is why it is important to use a cream with a sun protection factor.

From 30 to 40 years

At this stage in life, we must ensure that our moisturisers also contain anti-ageing ingredients. It is recommended that you use products which combat free radicals and, in some cases, contain cell reformers.

Some of the following are allied antioxidants or elements used to fight free radicals:

Vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C, olive oil, selenium, caviar extract, silicon, green tea, xanthines and coenzyme Q10.

40 onwards

Skin in this age category is considered to be "Mature skin", so recommended products are those with combined assets. Those recommended are:

  • Cell stimulants acting on synthesis capability
  • Toners capable of improving the mechanical properties of the skin
  • Tensioners, phytoestrogens, antioxidants, Coenzyme Q10, Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, DMAE and sunscreens

We must take into account the appearance of age spots, so the whitening products and cell renovators are useful for reducing darkened pigmentation of the skin.

Mature skin tends to dehydrate easily, and dryness tends to manifest in the skin with a dull, flakey and tight appearance. If applicable, the most desirable products are those containing ceramides, essential fatty acids, phospholipids, as well as products which help to prevent dehydration of the skin such as aquaporins, hyaluronic acid and lactic acid in low concentrations.

Today you can also find products that include plant stem cells, which have regenerative properties and are able to maintain youthful appearing skin for longer.

The newest discoveries

More discoveries are made every day regarding rejuvenation and wrinkles, among which we can find the following:

Peptide or protein fractions: Assets include being able to transfer signals to the cells of the skin, stimulating increased production of substances such as elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid gels that give the skin a radiant and youthful appearance.
Dill: It is said to have cosmetic uses in restoring skin elasticity.
White Tea Extract: A rich natural source of antioxidants that is said to help prevent ageing.
Anthocyanins: These substances can be found in berries and are antioxidants which help to reduce oxidative stress and thus contribute to the maintenance of youthful skin.

Hey I?m 34 and I?m seeing wrinkles and spots on my face lately, I?m so worried about that! I didn?t know what to do until I saw this, thanks a lot for helping me out with my problem. Now I know I have to take care of my sin more often and use anti-aging creams and of course sun protection.

Nice guide to follow since you are very young because the skin loses its good look because of the years and the lack of care that we have had during our life, so before yo get older and older, think about yourself and the future, do you want to see yourself with wrinkles being 30? Surely yo do not want this or even at 40, so change your mind a little bit

I’m 28 and starting to see the first signs of wrinkles. It doesn’t really worry me, because I think wrinkles create a distinguished look, and I’ve never really worried about using creams or anything to prevent them. I think people need to embrace their age and live life fully, rather than always trying to be something you’re not.

In my opinion, wrinkles equal knowledge and wisdom. If you don’t have wrinkles by the time you are 50 years old, there is something a bit wrong. I agree that it is important to take care of your skin by protecting it from the sun and also moisturising it with oil or a good quality cream, but no amount of skin lightening products or toners are going to put off the inevitable process of ageing, so own your old age and embrace how fabulous you look!
