Beyond that it is for your health, animals, environment or any other reason, you may be, along with many others, considering becoming a vegetarian. Here are some tips to get started, or even to start thinking about how to start:

1. Read! Investigate. Explore. Collect information. Learn what reasons have led many people to leave the meat. Discover that being a vegetarian is easy and healthy. Learn about the myths surrounding vegetarianism (including calcium, iron and protein). Knowledge is power.

2. Think! Think about the animals. Think about your body. Think about the Earth. Consider the impact of your food choices on those around you and the world. Remember: "we are what we eat”.

3. Speak! Talk to vegetarians. Talk to non-vegetarians. Question. Share your concerns. Go out with vegetarians. Visit vegetarian websites. Participate in demonstrations and campaigns.

4. Make goals! Make this a game. Bet your friend that you can be a month without stepping on a McDonalds or two weeks without eggs or roast. When you win, give you a prize. Your commitment with vegetarianism progress only depends on you.

5. Cook! Vegetarian cuisine is presented as a new and challenging world. Take classes. Get books and magazines. Try new recipes. Be creative. Have fun doing it. Verify that meatless meals are not only possible but limitless.

6. Eat! Make meal time special. Chew slowly, savor each bite well. Share your food with others.

7. Listen! Try to be aware of the needs of your body. Rest when tired. Eat when hungry. Pay attention to your body, you will discover that feeling of "heavy" fades after eating. Vegetarian food not only makes you feel good but your life will be energized. Respect your body. Learn the connection between what giving and receiving.

8. Experience! Make changes to your lifestyle. Explore macrobiotic diets. Visit restaurants and houses of vegetarian food. Discover the cuisine of other countries. New sports. Try yoga. Investigate the world of animal liberation. Now that you've stopped eating them, discover new ways to help animals. Explore your interests.

9. Get ready! You may find resistance from your family and friends. Get ready for this (family meals can be terribly stressful; it is difficult to question the "traditional foods"). Be strong. Trust in yourself. Prepare for questions such as "Are not plants living things?" "Wouldn’t the farm animals be extinct if we were all vegetarians?". Examine your doubts and answer them: Am I eating enough vitamins? Am I doing the right thing? Relax. Talk to your friends. Look at your books.

10. Celebrate! Remember the day you left the meat, celebrate it. Renew your choice. Discover that vegetarianism is an ongoing process, and entertaining.

So, whether you see it as a lifestyle, a religion or just a food choice, good luck and enjoy!
