How is it carried out?

This massage is applied through the anointing of oil on the body to avoid irritating the skin and to facilitate proper handling of the body. The massage is generally of natural origin (and you should ask if you want a better result) and there are therapists who use a few drops of aromatherapy oils at the request of the customer or the purpose for which they wish to achieve. The oils of lavender, orange blossom, violet, or rose, for example, are good for accentuating the effects of relaxation. There are slightly warm massage oil to improve absorption and to a better outcome, and there are some others that rely on music to promote a proper environment.

Movements that are used in this massage are against the movement, i.e. towards the heart, thus stimulating circulation.

To make the massage, people can either remain in their underwear or completely naked, in which case using sheets to cover.

The movements of massage

During the massage, different combinations of movements are carried out, the massage joints move and stretch your arms, legs or head. Some typical movements of this massage are Effleurage, which are movements that help to reduce stress on the muscles, the Petrissage, movements that are similar to those that are made by kneading flour. These movements greatly increase the circulation and deeply relax. Other movements that are performed are specific pressure points on the body which has pain when pressed, this indicates that there are knots of stress and tension, which undermine the free flow of energy and blood. This will usually use the thumb. Friction is another type of deep circular movements to relieve tension, and soft rolls or pinching of the skin are some alternative ways to relieve stress and promote circulation. To end this massage, usually mild stroke with closed fists of the hands are applied, which helps energize the body. Brushing of fingers, which is a slight pressure to move the fingertips through the body, it's a nice way to close the session of massage.

How long does it last?

This massage can last between 40 to 90 minutes.

Does anyone can take it?

It's a massage that anyone can take, just have to avoid when you have fever, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, varicose veins or thrombosis. If you suffer from hypertension or heart problems, warn the masseur as in this case they should not massage the area of the abdomen. During pregnancy, you should consult your doctor.

How to find a good masseuse?

Doing massage is not an exercise that anyone can apply. An amateur can have serious problems of implementation if does not have well studied the human body and take his/her job seriously and professionally. If you want a good massage and end up very satisfied with the results, it is best that you go with someone who already has taken one and recommend it, or find a center that offers this service in a professional manner.

I have never had a Swedish massage, but I think I'd like to try it. I have a lot of aches in my upper back, just between my shoulder blades. Every day I stretch my neck and back, by sitting cross legged and bringing my head down towards my chest. It feels great, warms my whole body and sends tingles down my spine. I'd like to try this massage for it though, too.

I agree! I have visited some masseurs that almost broke my bones, just kidding, but at the end I felt the same way as before with no results and that could be frustrating, so the best thing is to rely in someone who can practice it and I totally recommend having massages since it takes all your stress away when well-performed!
