Cochayuyo Algae recipes

Seaweed is a nutritious source of protein among which are many types of them as spirulina, the Arami, kelp, kombu, agar – agar, seaweed and so on. Algae have also high in vitamins how the A, C, E, and vitamin K, plus many minerals like calcium, magnesium, iodine, potassium, phosphorus, among many others. Seaweed is a food with medicinal properties, very beneficial to the heart tissues , to clean the colon, to combat and prevent anemia, to stimulate the kidneys and benefit and stimulate the brain tissues. This algae can be eaten in soups, rice, stews, smoothies, juices and so on. It can be served fresh or dried as required. Here are some delicious and highly nutritious recipes.

Seaweed soup

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 package of noodles or white noodles ( oriental style can be )
  • 1 chayote ( game cube )
  • 3 zucchini ( diced items )
  • 2 cups of fresh seaweed
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 liter of water or chicken broth
  • Salt

Procedure

  1. It is set to heat the water.
  2. Add zucchini, and fresh seaweed.
  3. Once the water boils, add the noodles or pasta until al dente.
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste (you can add a teaspoon bouillon powder).
  5. When the noodles are cooked, turn off the fire.
  6. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes until soft good algae.
  7. Serve hot. Delicious!

Bream algae

Serves: 4 people

Ingredients

  • Approximately 2kg of bream
  • 5 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • cup of olive oil
  • chillies
  • The juice of one lemon
  • 4 cups of algae

Procedure

  1. Open bream in half removing the spine.
  2. Add the lemon and the two or three minutes, a little oil.
  3. Put in the oven on a oil impregnated Fish poacher.
  4. In a pan fry the garlic and chilli.
  5. When lightly browned, add the seaweed.
  6. Boil in oil with garlic until lightly cooked.
  7. Once ready the bream, it turn this sauce.
  8. Serve hot.

Seaweed fritters

Serves: 4 people

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of algae
  • 6 tablespoons of whole wheat flour
  • 1 clove of garlic, very finely chopped
  • tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds and salt
  • 1 can of cream or plain yogurt

Procedure

  1. Make a dough with flour, garlic, water and salt.
  2. Add the seaweed and fry in hot oil.
  3. Serve hot.
  4. Bathe with cream to taste.

Homemade pizza with algae

Ingredients

  • ½ kg of wheat flour
  • 25 grams of yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Half a cup of dried seaweed
  • Half cup of fresh precooked algae
  • 1 tablespoon of oregano
  • cup of tomato sauce
  • 200 grams of manchego cheese
  • 1 cup of mushrooms

Procedure

  1. Knead dough and let rise for as long as possible so that this takes flavor.
  2. Shape the pizza dough and bathe with tomato the surface.
  3. Bake in oven until cooked dough
  4. Garnish with seaweed ( can be dried) , mushrooms and manchego cheese
  5. Serve with the cheese well melted.

Seaweed sauce for salads

Ingredients

  • 1 carrot, peeled
  • ½ onion
  • 4 tablespoons of dried seaweed
  • A clove of garlic
  • Soy sauce
  • One tablespoon of brown sugar
  • Sesame
  • A cup of plain yogurt
  • Half a cup of milk
  • Salt to taste

Procedure

  1. Blend all ingredients in blender.
  2. Serve salad on lettuce, spinach, tomato, sprouts, etc.

    Seaweed soup, eh? That sounds fantastic!! I live in Alaska and we have a lot of kelp, but I’m fairly sure you can’t do anything with it. I use it a lot in my garden as mulch and I know it’s super good for the plants. If humans have some way of consuming it, I would definitley do it. Do you know anything about eating kelp?
