Recent studies have found that camu camu, a fruit native to the Peruvian Amazon previously unknown, is the most powerful and main provider of vitamin C, found above citrus fruits like lemon and orange. If per 100 grams of orange we acquire 46.3 mg of ascorbic acid, with the camu camu we obtain up to 2780 mg, in addition, in its composition are present minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron.

Phytochemicals also provides protective effects on human health, it has amino acids as serine, valine and leucine, and other nutrients such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and is rich in bioflavonoids.

Since ancient times, indigenous communities have used Amazonian camu camu to feed and have benefited from its antioxidant power. Not only that, we know that this fruit is good for healthy eyes, gums, skin and nails.

Experts say it enhances fertility, balances the mood states of anxiety and improves the circulatory system and because of its high concentration of vitamin C, it has anti-viral properties and helps in cases of flu and colds.

Because of their important nutritional benefits while reactivating the immune system, camu camu is recommended for all people, however athletes, smokers, people with high stress, burn patients or diseases where the immune system is weakened and whose requirement for vitamin C is increased, should included it more often.

The camu camu has aroused worldwide interest and powerful naturist companies are using it as the main source for energy drinks, supplements, and sources of vitamin C. Japan is one of the biggest importers of Peruvian fruit, which has up to four varieties, but generally it is usually recognized by its reddish color and acid taste.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most popular and recognized vitamins, but unfortunately our bodies can not manufacture it, so you must get it from our diet.

It can be found in many fruits and vegetables like oranges, guava, kiwi, mango, pineapple, all citrus, melons, strawberries, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, vegetables, cabbage and spinach. However, no fruit or vegetable concentrates as much Vitamin C as Camu Camu and that's why this Amazonian fruit is so special.

Through vitamin C or ascorbic acid collagen can formed, a major constituent of cartilage and bone. It improves wound healing and reduces the symptoms caused by allergic reactions. It also has antioxidant action against harmful free radicals related to tumor development.

Vitamin C helps in the detoxification of the liver and inhibits the formation of nitrosamines, potentially carcinogenic substances in the stomach and increases the absorption of iron from food.

One of the symptoms when we don't have enough of this vitamin is that we feel totally tired and have pain in the joints. That is why the Camu camu is also recommended for arthritis patients.

How It's Used

Currently you can find Camu camu in juice concentrates, soft drinks, jams, yogurts, ice cream, nectar and powdered supplements.
