Brewer's yeast has high protein content and biological value; it has all the essential amino acids, making it ideal to diets, especially for vegetarians. Its high iron content is indispensable in anemic people.

This product is an incredible source of vitamin B, which benefits nervous people. Its high chromium content makes it suitable for diabetics, obese and especially those people who can’t stop eating chocolate and sweets. In pregnancy it is recommended because they are high in folic acid.

What is brewer's yeast?

Brewer's yeast is a microscopic fungus, Sccharomyces Cerevisiae, found naturally in the skin of certain fruits and beer. It is widely used in dietetics for its richness in vitamins B (the largest natural source), minerals (phosphorus, calcium, silicon, zinc, copper, iron) and protein (43%).

We can emphasize its restorative and purifying effect, to improve the condition of the skin, nails and hair, as well as in situations of fatigue. It contains active antibacterial substances which assist in maintaining the body's defenses. It also helps regulate bowel function, to participate in the renewal of the intestinal flora. They have a special effect against Coli bacteria and fungi of the genus Candida.

How do you get it?

It is a type of yeast that you can get from malt. It is deposited at the bottom of the maturation tanks of beer, in a cold storage. After washing and drying, it is suitable for consumption. Obtained with brewing, it is alcohol free.

Properties of yeast

Nutritionally, we have seen that it is highly recommended for its features, and an excellent dietary supplement, but also brewer's yeast has other properties that help our bodies, such as:

  • Helps strengthen nails, hair and skin.
  • It is a great skin scrubber.
  • Regulates our blood glucose levels.
  • It is rich in fiber, which helps to improve intestinal transit.
  • Strengthens the nervous system.
  • For its iron content, improves anemic.

Dietary Supplements

It is sold in pill or powder. Brewer's yeast is more flake digestive that fresh yeast, and without risk of fermentation. The daily supplement is approximately 40 grams. The method of use is to pour a tablespoon to soups, purees, natural fruit juices, salads, yogurt, cereals and more.

Contraindications of brewer's yeast

Regularly it doesn’t have side effects; however, those who have a weakened immune system should consult their use with doctors before drinking.

Due to its chromium content, it could alter the functioning of insulin, so if you have diabetes, it is best to consult with your doctor before using.

It is also recommended that if you suffer from diarrhea, gastrointestinal problems, or flatulence, avoid intake, since you may aggravate your symptoms.

In general, most people are apt to consume the yeast, and enjoy its benefits.
