The certification of organic products is one of the main tasks of government, which aims to ensure the quality of food and convey confidence and consumers.
In Spain, control and certification of organic agriculture is done mostly through Council or Committee of Organic Agriculture territorial (CAE) and subsidiaries of the Councils or Departments of Agriculture of the Autonomous Communities , or directly by DGs connected to them. However, three regions have in turn allowed private agencies to carry out these functions: Andalusia, Aragon and Castilla La Mancha.
As distinctive to allow consumers to recognize the market organic products, packaged units, in addition to its own brand, they carry a label and a numbered logo with the name or code of the certifying body. All contain as a common element in the legend "Organic Agriculture".
Therefore, the label of each product will contain mandatory code of the certification authority, formed by the initials ES, indicating that the product is certified in Spain; the initials AN, for example in cases where the product comes from Andalusia, followed by a 2 digit number that identifies the certification authority and ending with the initials AE, in reference to organic agriculture: ES -- AN - "XX" - AE.
At the community level, the Ministers of Agriculture of the European Union have reached a recent agreement on the production and labeling of organic foods. The new provisions will oblige to use the EU organic logo, but may also be accompanied by other national or private anagrams. Furthermore, the terms "eco", "ecological", "bio", "biological" or "organic" may be used, which are classified as organic production and that can only be used for these products exclusive.
